I had a hive that swarmed, unfortunately I did not have time to get into the hive to remove the honey super.

Here in Virgina we are knee deep in SHB and without enough bees to keep them at bay, they started laying eggs in the uncapped honey frames in the super.

I ended up with 5 frames like this.

Freeze the Frames

I froze the frames in my beehouse freezer for 48 hours. I then cleaned out the cells with any SHB worms.

Shown here are the frames thawing.

Give Back to the Bees

Shown here, I am all setup to add the middle section of my AZ hive. This is a swarm a caught a couple months ago and they are bursting at the seams in this hot 95F+ hot weather.

Speaking of hot, the inside of my beehouse is a cool 73 degrees Fahrenheit.

The 5 uncapped honey frames will be added to this middle section shown here.

Opening the Middle Section

I removed the empty frames and frame support rods.

I pried open the closed hive divider and gave the bees a little smoke.

I added my open hive separator.

Frame support rods added.

Add the Cleaned Wormy Frames

I added the five cleaned up and thawed frames of uncapped honey to the middle section.

Seven empty waxed frames to fill out the section.

I used my frame spacer jig to pre align the frames to make installing the rear screen easier.

Quick Inspection

I did a quick inspection of the lower section of the hive.

Things looking very nice, brood, eggs, resources.

Conclusion

I closed up the two sections. The bees have already started to venture up.

I will check back in a couple weeks to see how things are going.

Update

Only a few hours later the bees have moved in.
